Late Again, sorry!
For next week there is a 95% chance I will be late if not miss week 18 at all. I have an event coming up that I can't miss and will take quite some time.
However, week 17 was very productive. I think the final version is coming quite soon now! You will see why!
That change also made some minor changes to the hallway coming out of maintenance. I extended the stairs a bit more out bound, so now it looks more interesting instead of just a hallway. It has more purpose now. It still might be a bit empty, so I have to come up with some ideas on what I could add there. But overall it is looking much better.
I have to do some smoothing to the coaster still, but the general shape is there and players wont notice unless they stare at it. This will be tweaked before the next public release.
I looked at Planet Coaster for inspiration. They don't have many different store types, but I noticed that they also show a pet with the food. Burger chief, or the cow drink. So I decided to do something similar, as drawing the food was not an option (It didn't look good on my test). I decide to look for an animal that begins with a K that also lives in Egypt. I thought having K-K would be nice, a bit of alliteration. By change I found King Cobra. Nice, a perfect hit! I decided to do it as King Kobra Kebabs. "Brilliant" I though, it has alliteration, but I fortunately realized as soon as I typed it that it was "K K K". Not good at all. So I immediately change it to "King Cobra Kebabs". I took some cartoon from pixabay, a free stock image site, and made a quick logo. Neat, color scheme matched the general theme park and I added it in.
I also got rid of the obelisk on the food area. I didn't like that such a landmark model was repeated. People could get confused when saying "there is an enemy at the obelisk" So Instead, I made a drink stand in the middle where the obelisk was. I decided to reuse the pet for time issues. King Cobra Lemonade.
Now the whole food area call out name will be cobra. It fits the theme of the map. Its unique in the map, and more importantly, players can be more specific with words like "lemonade, Kebab or restroom" to pin point where in Cobra an enemy would be.
Gift shop had many problems. It was incomplete, there were place holder textures and it was a shadowy mess. The biggest problem was that the clothes created shadows on the racks. This was problematic because it didn't matter how light the texture was, it was difficult as T to spot the CTs hiding in the gift shop. I decided to get rid of the models and make it with brushes. Might be a bit of a downgrade, but with this change it meant I can get more versatility if I wanted to place other objects.
I got rid of the models property of creating shadows. I added more lights so that it is also more illuminated. After all real shops have a lot of lights. I created more objects and props for the gift shops. Vases, Clothes, more variation of clothes and also plushies! I realized that theme parks always have plushies. Disney has Simba, Nala, etc. Sea World has Penguins, Orcas, etc. De_Zoo had these giraffes and elephants. So I decided to add in those giraffes and elephants (Theme parks add in plushies from many areas of the park, for example, penguins in Sea World are not sold only on the penguin area, so I took this concept for my gift shop too), and I modeled out some Egyptian plushies based from these guys on amazon. They aren't perfect, but look good, they bonce around when shot, the bomb or a nade goes off, and makes the whole map look more alive. Maybe there are too many of them for a multiplayer server to handle, so I might make some of those static objects if I realize it causes too much lag.
Not all shelves are stocked however, I placed some boxes (Which I have to tag with content) because it doesn't make sense to have the whole gift shop stocked up if the coaster is not ready to open yet for the public.
I also started working on the On Ride photo booth. I added a sign and I also plan to add some props to indicate these better. I have a problem, it's hard to find reference pictures online. either there is only videos of the coaster and queue area, but not of the exit and the on ride photo stand. If you have any please let me know I could use some reference images on this area.
The results are very promising. The whole area is much more brighter. The walls don't have a lot of shadows from the hoodies and shirts. The walls are also light, so the players can be spotted quite quickly. There is still some work to do. I have some other ideas for props to add and make sure the collisions are right, I don't want the bomb to get stuck. You can also raise and lower the counter gate, so you could use those as cover (It's wall bangable though). I still think the gift shop may look a bit empty, but I don't want it to get cluttered with items, besides if all plushies get thrown off their shelves it's a mess. And a potential issue for players, as you can kick those with your legs and could give your position away.
Oh, and I gotta sit through the compile of the radar version. I enjoy doing the radar image on Photoshop.
I am happy and I think I finally left the plateau area of map development. I hope it will be a good map and that players will enjoy it.
Finally the top view of the map
